FOOD FOR THOUGHT....OR HAIR!

I think it's safe to say that the majority of us are looking for a magical elixir that will give us beautiful, bountiful hair.  While I haven't found one yet, there are certainly plenty of products out there to help in the mean time.
Products are great and have a range of benefits but are not permanent. Good hair starts from the inside. I think the elixir we are looking for occurs in nature and everyday habits.
If your looking for glowing, strong, full, healthy beautiful hair then here is my hair elixir. (Your skin and nails will benefit from this as well)

Simple things to eat more of, or incorporate into your daily diet, Zinc, Iron,Vitamin B, Vitamin K, Vitamin A and Protein.
Many of us don't get enough vitamins in our daily diet, according to the USDA, deficiencies in Folic Acid, B-12 and B-6 are very common. Every day foods can supply you with your needs, for starters, Bananas, potatoes and Spinach are rich in B-6. Folic Acid can be found in citrus fruits, tomatoes, whole grains, fortified grains, beans and lentils.  For your B-12 intake turn to meat, dairy (low or non fat), poultry and fish.  B Vitamins are important to prevent hair loss. They are important for scalp circulation and since B-6 creates melanin (your hairs pigmentation) they help prevent you from going gray.
The structure of the hair follicle is protein, so this is a critical part of the diet. Great sources of protein include soy, meat (like fish), eggs and chicken.
Vitamin K is great for hair growth. Great sources of Vitamin K are green veggies like kale. spinach. asparagus, broccoli, Swiss chard, and Brussels sprouts.
Vitamin A is an antioxidant that helps in producing healthy sebum for your scalp and provides your hairs natural oils. Excellent sources,Fish liver oil, meat, milk, cheese, eggs, spinach, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, apricots and peaches.
Zinc, Iron, and Biotin are a very important part of your hair diet, they promote hair growth and eliminate deficiencies that cause brittle hair. (Which is no good) Sources are legumes (beans of any sort).
Vitamin C and E are also great for your hair and scalp. They give it beautiful shine and promote good natural oils. You can find these vitamins in any of the foods listed. Essential fatty acids also play a role, think about taking flax seed oil, omega- 3's. Walnuts and Almonds are also a good source.
Last but not least DRINK PLENTY OF WATER!!!!
